Critical Maintenance & Longevity

Downtime is lost revenue. A robust preventative maintenance program is non-negotiable for maximizing the lifespan and reliability of your scrap trucks.

  • Daily Pre-Trip Inspections (DVIRs): Mandatory and critical. Operators must check brakes, tires, lights, fluid levels, hydraulic systems, and any visible damage before each shift. Document everything.

  • Scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PM): Adhere strictly to manufacturer-recommended service intervals for oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and lubrication.

  • Hydraulic System Care: The lifeblood of grapple, roll-off, and lugger trucks. Regularly check fluid levels, hoses for leaks, and ensure cylinders are free of damage. Contaminated or low hydraulic fluid can lead to catastrophic failures.

  • Tire Management: Heavy loads and rough yard conditions take a toll. Monitor tire pressure daily, inspect for cuts/bulges, and ensure proper rotation and alignment to extend tire life and improve fuel efficiency.

  • Rust & Corrosion Control: Scrap environments are harsh. Implement regular cleaning, especially underneath and around pivot points, and apply rust-inhibiting treatments to extend chassis and body life.

  • Brake System Checks: Given the heavy loads, brake maintenance is paramount for safety. Regularly inspect pads, drums, rotors, and air lines.

The Golden Rule: Invest in maintenance to avoid costly repairs and lost operational days.
